Perkins&Will is committed to engage its professional resources and leadership to benefit the social needs in the built environment where design can make a difference. While encouraging volunteerism by our employees in our local communities, Perkins&Will will donate 1% of its time and unique intellect to initiate and execute projects and buildings that serve the broad society who otherwise would not have access to our professional services.

Portland Community Squash (PCS) is more just than a place where people come to play squash—it’s a vibrant community hub that is taking on some of the most pressing social challenges in Portland, ME. Located within a former synagogue, PCS has pioneered the Community Squash Model, creating a dynamic environment where people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities come together to learn, grow, play, and thrive. We worked with PCS to design spaces for new squash courts, a community café, locker rooms, study rooms, and redesigned exterior spaces. The new facilities further solidify PCS’s role as one of the most culturally vibrant spaces in Portland, by creating indoor and outdoor spaces for gathering and hosting events, allowing the organization to expand its programming.
